When: Sunday, April 12, 2026
Time: 8:30-10:30am (arrive at 8:15am to start on time)
Location (location changed as of March 29): Englishman River Estuary Nature Preserve
Directions: (Plummer Road access / east side of the estuary). Directions as follows. Take Plummer Road off Old Island Hwy in Parksville, stay right on Shorewood Drive at the bend, drive to the end then left of Mariner Way. Meet at the gravel parking lot at the end of Mariner Way - on the right. No washrooms as the actual park area is closed (but beach is open via gravel lot).
Note: Google maps says the park is temporarily closed but beach access is open (I have been a few times in the last week).

Cost: Cash or e-transfer to [email protected] by donation (100% of proceeds to the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region - Qualicum Beach location on 2nd Avenue)
Group size is limited to approx. 12-15 people

Come join Dave to celebrate the Brant Festival in the community and enjoy a Bird Photography Workshop. Dave has been photographing nature for over 20 years specializing in landscape and wildlife photography. Based on Central Vancouver Island, Dave has been teaching nature based photography workshops to all levels of ability since 2010. In 2025, Dave co-authored a BC Bestselling book celebrating the beauty of this wonderful island, with his wife, called "Vancouver Island: The Art of the Landscape".
100% of the proceeds for this workshop will be donated to the Mount Arrowsmith Biosphere Region (office in Qualicum Beach). Suggested donation is $25-50 but any amount is welcome (cash only, please). My wife Kelly, a certified forest therapy guide and nature photographer, will also be available for support.
Workshop is open to all levels of ability. Workshop is rain or shine. Please bring a rain jacket, cap, and water.

What are we going to do at the workshop?
Dave will guide you through technical aspects, composition techniques, and lighting for bird photography through the 2 hours together. If time permits, we may venture to another location where I have seen Brant Geese several times this year. This location at Englishman River Estuary is also good for birds in flight ... which I love to do. Some new images from late March 2026 below.
